Problem
Developer.android.com had accumulated
years of visual debt. The design system was fragmented, the brand had fallen behind Android's evolution, and dark theme, the most requested feature in the platform's history, still did not exist. For a platform used by millions of developers worldwide, it had quietly stopped feeling like Android.
Responsibilities
I led the Android rebrand rollout and the development of a sitewide dark theme across developer.android.com, including a new blog experience. Working alongside one other designer, I illustrated over 300 new assets, evolved the existing design system, and drove end-to-end delivery of dark theme from concept through to launch.
Impact
The launch delivered the most requested feature in the platform's history, alongside a
fully evolved design system and over 300 new illustrated assets. Developer.android.com was brought in line with Android's current visual identity, at the scale of a platform millions of developers rely on every day.
